The Expressive Arts Group is a peer-led, affirming digital gathering to connect, explore, and create with other creative folks (no experience required). This group meets every first Monday at 6:00pm-8:00pm EST.

About This Event

In the Expressive Arts group, we welcome folks of all backgrounds, skill types, abilities, and identities. The Expressive Arts group is intended to be a comfortable and affirming space for folks to express themselves artistically, whatever that means for them in the moment. It is also a space created with the understanding that everyone is an artist in their own right, and we all utilize creativity to navigate the world everyday.

While this group encourages the use of physical media (paints, colored pencils, markers, etc.), digital art is also welcome. Visual Prompts/topics will be available, but are optional. Please feel free to work on whatever feels right for you; intuition-based creation is encouraged.

In this space, we:

• Acknowledge that this is a peer-led art gathering and NOT a clinical support group or art therapy session.
• Welcome and respect ALL folks and ALL skill types.
• Understand that we strive to make this a comfortable and affirming space, and we do not give critique or feedback unless asked.
• Do not gatekeep what is "true art"; all art is real art!
• Do not tolerate any bigotry, whether it's intended or not.
• Understand that it's okay not to share and expounding on shares is optional.
• Encourage you to meet your comfort needs, including coping with triggers.
• Give folks the autonomy to meet comfort needs by offering a content warning before sharing.
• Understand that we were all artists before the world told us we couldn't be; this is an anti-capitalistic space.

During group, we will have time to introduce ourselves, go over the prompt, create together, and share our creations afterwards (introductions and sharing of any kind are always optional). You are more than welcome to have your video on/off, use the chat, or do whatever you need to feel comfortable. Live captions will be available.
